Magnetic Screen Door Not Closing: Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

If a magnetic screen door is not closing, identify where the gap starts and whether it appears at rest, after passage or only in wind. Work from mounting and panel arrangement toward local magnetic edge damage. Change one variable at a time and record the result.

Collect evidence before adjusting

Record the order reference, curtain dimensions, installation date and when the problem started. Take a front photograph of the opening, a side view of the track, close-ups of the seam and bottom, and a video showing one complete opening and release.

Note wind, temperature, traffic and recent cleaning or impacts. If only one panel is affected, identify it. Keep the supplied drawing and instructions available so observations can be compared with the agreed arrangement.

Choose the first check by symptom

Symptom First check Next action
Gap along much of the seam Track level, panel position and dimensions Compare with the order layout
Bottom stays open Floor contact, twisting and clearance Check movement without cutting
One magnetic section fails Orientation, obstruction and edging Photograph the affected area
Fails only in wind Air movement and exposure Review installation position and suitability
Started after impact Track, fasteners, seams and damage Stop using an insecure assembly

1. Check the mounting reference

Verify track level and sound supporting surfaces and fasteners. Compare finished width and height with the drawing. A skewed mounting can displace the seam even when every magnet remains intact.

Do not loosen loaded hardware or climb to the mounting without appropriate access and support. An insecure track or structure needs a qualified installation review before more traffic.

2. Check panel order and magnetic alignment

Compare panel sequence and orientation with the supplied instructions. Look for reversed edges, twisted edging, folds, debris or other obstructions. Inspect the upper seam as well as the center.

Release panels from a small separation and observe which section meets first. Record persistent separation rather than assuming stronger magnets are the answer. Replacement edging and magnets must match the system.

3. Check floor contact

Look for dragging, uneven floor levels, debris and contact with steps or thresholds. Check whether lower components move freely. Intended clearance depends on the finished system and site.

Do not trim a panel as the first remedy. Cutting can alter edging, weights and magnet positions. Send measurements and photographs before modifying finished material.

4. Separate wind effects from alignment

Compare calm conditions with normal operation. Note exhaust fans, nearby doors and outdoor exposure. Include a video of the actual condition if panels close at rest but remain open during air movement.

A magnetic edge alone does not establish a wind rating. Installation position, configuration or a different doorway system may need review.

5. Inspect damage and report findings

Check tears, separated stitching, damaged edging, corrosion and loose hardware. State what was checked, what changed and the outcome. This helps distinguish installation, environment and damaged components.

Support evidence checklist

  • Order reference, supplied layout and installation date.
  • Measured opening and curtain dimensions.
  • Whole-opening, seam, track and floor photographs.
  • A complete opening and release video.
  • Wind, traffic, temperature and recent changes.
  • The affected area and visible damage.
